    The aim of geochemical analyses was examination of relation between the aromatic hydrocarbon distribution and oxidation of organic matter dispersed in the Kupferschiefer in the KGHM PM SA mining area. For 11 samples of Kupferschiefer, Rock – Eval pyrolytic analysis, bitumines extraction and GC – MS analysis were conducted. Based on results of geochemical analyses: the S2/S3 ratio, hydrogen index (HI), total organic carbon content (TOC) and the aromatic hydrocarbon distribution indices (Phen/?MPhen and terphenyls index TrPI) were determined. These parameters and indicies allowed to identify the oxidised, transitional and reduced zones in the Kupferschiefer. It was noticed that increase of S2/S3 ratio are connected with increase of HI values, and decrease of values of Phen/?MPhen values and TrPI indices, which characterize reduced zone. The low values of S2/S3, HI are attributed to the oxidised and transitional zone.
