Item type:Article, Access status: Open Access , Budowa geologiczna rejonu Sucha Beskidzka - Świnna Poręba (polskie Karpaty fliszowe)(Wydawnictwa AGH, 2006) Cieszkowski, Marek; Golonka, Jan; Waśkowska, Anna; Chrustek, MonikaUpper Cretaceous and Paleogene rocks of the Silesian and Magura Nappes build up the complex structure of the investigated area, which is stretching along the Skawa River valley between Sucha Beskidzka and Świnna Poręba. Middle and Upper Godula Beds, Istebna Beds, Eocene red shales and Ciężkowice Sandstone as well as Hieroglyphic, Menilite and Krosno Beds form the Silesian Succession. The debris-flow deposits with exotic rocks pebbles and large olistolites were observed within the Krosno Beds. The sedimentary succession is typical for the Siary sub-unit from the Magura Nappe. The present authors proposed the formal lithostratigraphic names for this unit. According to this formalization the following lithostratigraphic units have been distinguished within the Siary succession: Jaworzynka Formation (Ropianka Beds) with Gołynia Shale member and Mutne Sandstone Member within the Paleocene part of profile, Łabowa Formation with the Żurawnica Sandstone Member, the Skawce Sandstone Member, Beloveza Formation, and Maków Beskid Formation with Zembrzyce Shale Member, Wątkowa Sandstone Member and Budzów Shale Member. The Silesian and Magura Nappes rocks are strongly folded, within the Magura Nappes several scales and longitudinal shear zones have been distinguished. The formations of both units are cut by the transversal fault systems of The Magura Nappe has the independent fault systems, some of its dislocations have been acquired, however, from the Silesian Nappe.Item type:Article, Access status: Open Access , Geotouristic bicycle path around Nowy Targ (Carpathians, Poland)(Wydawnictwa AGH, 2020) Szczęch, Mateusz; Cieszkowski, Marek; Szczęch, Szymon; Chodyń, RafałThe area in the vicinity of Nowy Targ is located within the northern part of the Orawa-Nowy Targ Basin and the southern slopes of the Gorce Mountains in the Polish sector of the Outer Carpathians. Geologically, the region is built of the Upper Cretaceous–Palaeogene turbiditic deposits representing sedimentary successions of the Krynica Subunit of the Magura Nappe and the Neogene–Quaternary fresh-water deposits filling the Orawa-Nowy Targ Basin. The Magura Nappe in the described area is represented by the thick-bedded sandstones of the Magura Formation and thin-and medium-bedded sandstone-shale deposits of the Malcov Formation, which are well-exposed in numerous outcrops, especially in the Łopuszna stream valley. The Magura Nappe deposits were folded and cut by a fault system in the Miocene. The presented area displays varied geomorphological relief and picturesque landscapes. Moreover, rare species of fauna and flora occurring here, as well as the still-alive culture of the Podhale Highlanders and continuously improving tourist infrastructure additionally contribute to the development of geotourism in this area. In addition, this area is an increasingly popular place among cyclists, thanks to the development of a network of bicycle paths, therefore the proposed geotourist bicycle path will extend the offer for this group of tourists.Item type:Article, Access status: Open Access , Geotouristic values of the Gorce National Park and its surroundings (The Outer Carpathians, Poland)(Wydawnictwa AGH, 2016) Szczęch, Mateusz; Cieszkowski, Marek; Chodyń, Rafał; Loch, JanThe Gorce Mountains are a picturesque range in the Polish sector of the Outer Carpathians. They are built with turbiditic deposits, representing sedimentary successions of the Krynica and Bystrica Subunits of the Magura Nappe, Late Cretaceous-Paleogene in age. In the Gorce Mts. the majority of lithostratigraphic divisions representing discussed subunits are very well exposed in numerous outcrops. The deposits of the Magura Nappe are folded, locally thrust, and cut by the strike-slip and oblique fault system. This nappe in the Gorce Mts. covers tectonically units of the Foremagura Group of Nappes, which crop out in two tectonic windows. From Rabka-Zdrój and Szczawa mineral waters are well known. Morphology of the Gorces Mts. is varied. A lot of rock tors occur there, as well as landslides, often extensive. Authors systematized lithostratigraphical units according to their primary position in sedimentary basins and other sedimentary areas. Magura Basin originated in Middle Jurassic and proto-Silesian Basin in Late Jurassic-Early Cretaceous times together with syn- and post-rift deposits. Sub-Silesian-Żdanice sedimentary area originated in Late Cretaceous, and during Jurassic and Early Cretaceous times was northern part of the proto-Silesian Basin. Their occurrences at various stratigraphic levels (Late Jurassic - Early Miocene) are related to different stages of development of the flysch basins, from the stage of rifting to post-rifting, through the orogenic phases, and further to the post-orogenic period.Item type:Article, Access status: Open Access , Zamki znad jezior Rożnowskiego i Czchowskiego jako geoturystyczne lapidaria i rola piaskowców istebniańskich w ich powstaniu(2010) Cieszkowski, Marek; Waśkowska-Oliwa, AnnaOn the Rożnów Foothils area, at the Rożnów and Czchów artificial lakes, a few usually ruined castles are located. This historical and recently monumental defensive objects emerged mainly in the Middle Ages. These Castles, are located on exposures of the Upper Cretaceous Istebna Beds. The Istebna Sandsones constitutes also natural local construction raw materials. The Istebna Beds are involved in the structure of the Silesian Nappe, one of the main Outer Carpathian tectonic units. The original walls of castles with their geological enclosing are geoturistic attractions of the Rożnów Land. They could be also a kind of lapidarium. In their walls are exposed specimens of the sandstone lithotypes typical for the Istebna Beds.
