Item type:Doctoral Dissertation, Access status: Open Access , Opracowanie i próby zastosowania nowych technik specjacji rtęci do wybranych próbek środowiskowych(2006-11-09) (Data obrony: 2009) Iwanicha, Agnieszka
Wydział Geodezji Górniczej i Inżynierii ŚrodowiskaThe thesis aims at establishing the methodology of mercury speciation in selected environmental samples. Modern mercury speciation methods were collated and reviewed. Emphasis was placed on methylmercury (MeHg) determination methods as MeHg: is the most toxic of common organic mercury compounds. Complex and unique system for mercury speciation purposes was designed, established and tested. To utilize the system's capacities, two methods of methylmercury determination in the environmental samples were chosen, assessed and re-evaluated. Those methods were: Solid Phase Microextraction before chromatographic separation and mass detection and adsorption of volatile mercury compounds on Tenax traps before chromatographic separation and atomic fluorescence detection. Crucial factors limiting the reliable methylmercury determination results, achieved by using the above-mentioned methods, were identified and re-adjusted. Other parameters of analyses were modified in order to achieve more reproducible results. Optimized methods were checked for accuracy by using certified reference material (DORM-2. fish muscle). Detailed research on mercury content in sediment (76) and fish tissue samples (52) taken from the Ebro River basin (Spain) was conducted. Most contaminated sites were identified and selected for further study.
