    Charakterystyka geologiczna i złożowa węglonośnych utworów karbonu w obszarze górniczym KWK „Knurów - Szczygłowice” - Ruch „Knurów” w Knurowie, GZW

    The following study’s aim was to describe the geological and depositional conditions of the KWK (Bituminous Coal Mine) “Knurów-Sczygłowice” – Ruch “Knurów” mining area. The description was made based on the mine’s geological records and available literature. The mine is located in the western part of the Upper-Silesian Coal Basin (Polish: Górnośląskie Zagłębie Węglowe) where are numerous displacements due to the fault and fold tectonics. Deposit is made of formations originating from the Lower Namurian stage up to the Westphalian A stage. The coal seams of rudzkie beds s.s., whose thickness ranges from 0,1 up to 7,9 m, are extracted there. Maps of the basic parameters characterizing coal’s quality for chosen seams were plotted on the basis of the physico-chemical analysis of the coal. Coal has very good quality parameters and is used in power and coke engineering.
