The aim of this article is to show how Swedish fathers perceive and define gender equality and parenthood. Undoubtedly, the Swedish family policy has a significant impact on men's thinking. The article has two parts. Firstly, the Swedish family policy is described in a historical perspective. The focus is put on mechanisms that are to enhance men to be more engaged in family life. The second part is based on data gathered through indepth interviews with Swedish men. The interviews were conducted by the author in September and October 2012 in Stockholm. Their analysis shows how fathers define parenthood and what problems they have to face in a society that one hand is based on gender equality values, but on the other hand still refers to stereotypical parental and gender roles.

Naturalisation of the difference: the experience of fatherhood in Sweden and Poland

Research indicates that the gender of a parent has a great impact on how s/he engages in parenting. The expectations towards men and women significantly differ and are strictly connected with dominating models of masculinity and femininity. They are also related to biological differences between men and women that often serve as a convenient explanation for the unequal power order. The article seeks to answer questions on how men in Sweden and Poland experience their parenting, taking into account the naturalised differences between fatherhood and motherhood, and how these differences affect power relations.

New pensioners and the surrounding social reality. The experience of retiring in Poland

The article deals with the issue of retirement in contemporary Polish society. The analysis is based on a qualitative research project conducted with people who had formally retired within the previous five years. The process of retiring is one of the most important turning points in the life course. The aim is to look more carefully at the experience of the initial years of retirement and the process of adjustment to a new social status. The article seeks to answer questions regarding how new pensioners comprehend and function in the current social and institutional settings, in particular how they perceive the process of changes and rebuild their relations with the younger generations.

(Re)produkowanie wzorów płciowych w technologii : płeć społeczno-kulturowa w projektowaniu interfejsów konwersacyjnych

Celem rozprawy doktorskiej jest wyróżnienie i scharakteryzowanie wzorów płciowych w procesie projektowania interfejsów konwersacyjnych. Problem badawczy został sformułowany jako pytania o to jakie i w jaki sposób produkowane i reprodukowane są wzory płci społeczno-kulturowej w procesie projektowania interfejsów konwersacyjnych. Analiza została przeprowadzona w oparciu o teorie integracyjne płci kulturowej oraz nurt feministycznych studiów nad technologią (Feminist Technology Studies, FTS). Materiał empiryczny pozyskano poprzez wywiady pogłębione z osobami zaangażowanymi w projektowanie interfejsów konwersacyjnych, obserwację jawną w organizacji oraz autoetnografię. Rozprawa wnosi wkład w studia genderowe, proponując rozszerzenie koncepcji reżimów płciowych Raewyn Connell o piąty wymiar - reżim technologiczny. Wyniki badań ukazują, że wzory płciowe są wytwarzane i utrwalane w wyniku relacji zachodzącej pomiędzy praktykami projektowymi, technologią a gender. Ustalenia te otwierają nowe perspektywy dla analiz związków między płcią a technologią, szczególnie w kontekście rozwoju systemów opartych na sztucznej inteligencji, i mogą stanowić punkt odniesienia dla dalszego rozwoju teorii integracyjnych oraz badań w nurcie FTS.
