The development of urban structures and the increasing complexity of transport systems necessitate the search for novel solutions and tools for spatial analyses in safety terms. This study aims to determine whether the city’s transport system network exhibits scale-free network characteristics and whether crucial center nodes can be identified for the efficient functioning of the entire system. The study developed two transport system network models: one based on the Topographic Objects Database, and the other on data from devices that record vehicle traffic at selected nodes. Both were found to follow the bell-shaped curve characteristic of random networks, however, the second network model differed significantly from the first model due to the identification of nodes that could potentially act as hubs in an emerging scale-free network. A simulation was conducted to model the impact of cutting off these crucial nodes (centers), with a visualization of the network structure’s behavior. In conclusion, using scale-free network theory to optimize FD operations is reasonable and useful. In this scenario, the transport system network displays scale-free characteristics, thus allowing for the identification of the most crucial functional points of the entire structure.Item type:Article, Access status: Open Access , Migracje pod wpływem zmian klimatu w kontekście nierówności społecznych(Wydawnictwa AGH, 2025) Krywult-Albańska-MałgorzataThe aim of the paper is to summarize research on the connections between human mobility and climate change. The first part discusses selected social consequences of climate change, especially those with potential impact on migrations (including rising sea levels, epidemiological threats and temperature changes). Emphasis has been placed on factors which make certain populations and subgroups thereof vulnerable to climate change, depending on their position in the social structure. In the second part, the paper discusses unequal impacts and unequal contribution to the climate crisis in the context of climate justice. The main part highlights key features of environmental migrations and their connections with social inequalities. This type of mobility constitutes an adaptive strategy employed in a particular social and economic context and depending on one’s place in the social structure.Item type:Article, Access status: Open Access , The reconstruction of river system pollution changes with metals in shallow floodplain water reservoirs during the onset of the post-industrialisation period(Wydawnictwa AGH, 2025) Ciszewski, Dariusz; Szarek-Gwiazda, Ewa; Pociecha, AgnieszkaTowards the end of the 20$^{th}$ century, Poland’s economy experienced a transformation in terms of its industry and increasingly stringent environmental requirements. Together, these resulted in the general improvement of the quality of the aquatic environment. The Chechło River catchment is an example of such changes, where the closure of many industrial plants (including a zinc-lead [Zn-Pb] mine), the reclamation of several hot spots and the extension of sewage treatment contributed to a general decline in sediment pollution with Zn, Pb and Cd. The aim of the investigations was to evaluate the rate of these changes in order to assess the river recovery rate to the pre-industrial pollution level. The research involved the comparison of sediment pollution in subsidence reservoirs from two different eras: the peak of pollution and the post-industrial era. We observed a decrease in sediment pollution, mostly influenced by the closure of the Zn-Pb mine in 2010, despite many sources being closed or mitigated at that time. The change in sediment pollution was very well observed in the younger reservoir of the post-industrialisation period which is an efficient trap for sediments transported since ca. 2007. Considering that the sampling took place less than 10 years after the closure of the mine, we could regard the 3-4-fold drop as a rapid change. In older reservoirs, which were active already during the period of peak river pollution but connected with the river only by narrow ditches, changes in sediment pollution were minor. Pollution changes expected in the future will be much slower because the supply of pollutants from diffuse sources has dispersed in the prevailing part of the catchment.Item type:Article, Access status: Open Access , The impact of COVID-19 on the global renewable energy sector. The COVID-19 pandemic has had a significant impact on the renewable energy sector. This study aims to provide an integrative review of the global impacts and challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic on the renewable energy sector and highlight the energy-related lessons and emerging opportunities by capturing the main trends in the field. First, the integrative review identifies five themes. Second, the study identifies the aspects of renewable energy that are influenced by the COVID-19 pandemic. Third, the study proposes a conceptual framework highlighting the impacts and challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic on renewable energy demand and consumption patterns, and these results are further supported by the aggregate dimensions identified through inductive analysis. The three main energy challenges are: the healthcare sector primarily dealing with disease control; associated environmental impacts with challenges relating to fluctuating and uncertain energy demand and consumption, structural and pattern changes, greenhouse gas emissions, local air quality, energy transmission infrastructure, and oil production and transmission network; associated economic impact dealing with industrial activities including households, agriculture, public and commercial sector, energy import/ export, sales revenue and expenditure, social sector factors, funding schemes, and subsidies, technology R&D, and overall economic welfare. Our results extend and unify those previously obtained by Lasota and Myjak. In particular, we naturally generalize the concept of semifractals for the systems acting on Hausdorff topological spaces. The main tool in our analysis is the notion of topological (Kuratowski) limits. We especially focus on the forward asymptotic behavior of discrete set-valued processes generated by sequences of iterated function systems. In this context, we establish sufficient conditions for the existence of fractal-type limit sets.Item type:Article, Access status: Open Access , Low-Cost 3D Depth Sensors for Mobile Applications and Control Systems – Accuracy Assessments Using Surveying Techniques(Wydawnictwa AGH, 2025) Janos, Daniel; Ortyl, Łukasz ; Kuras, PrzemysławThis article focuses on low-cost LiDAR (light detection and ranging) sensors and 3D depth cameras. Particular attention was paid to their accuracy and compliance with the technical specifications that were provided by their respective manufacturers. The following devices were tested: Stereolabs ZED 2i, Stereolabs ZED, and Intel RealSense D435i depth cameras, and the Intel RealSense L515 LiDAR sensor. An experiment was carried out to measure a geometrically diverse environment (which is typical for in-motion imaging) where both the measurement range and the distortion that is generated by each device’s algorithms on edges, folds, planes, and 3D objects could be evaluated. Depth sensors are often used with excessive confidence as to their geometric reliability. The aim of this work is to assess the actual accuracy of such sensors, which may constitute the ground truth for accuracy losses that could result from the operations of autonomous vehicles. Based on the results, the accuracy information that was provided by the respective manufacturers was difficult to obtain under real conditions. It was found that the low-cost devices could be used in industrial projects, but their operations must take place under certain conditions and settings. It was also necessary to know their capabilities and limitations in order to take full advantage of what they offer.Item type:Article, Access status: Open Access , Asymptotic behavior of the solutions of operators that are sum of pseudo p-Laplace type(Wydawnictwa AGH, 2025) Jana, PurbitaThe article investigates a Poisson-type problem for operators that are finite sum of pseudo $p$-Laplace-type operators within long cylindrical domains. It establishes that the rate of convergence is exponential, which is considered optimal. In addition, the study analyzes the asymptotic behavior of the related energy functional. This research contributes to a deeper understanding of the mathematical properties and asymptotic analysis of solutions in this context.Item type:Article, Access status: Open Access , An Analysis of Transient States in the Power Supply System of a Selected Industrial Robot(AGH University Press, 2025) Nowocień, Sebastian; Ziółkowski, EugeniuszIndustrial robots are controlled by dedicated controllers powered by a single-phase or three-phase power supply system. The main power parameters characterizing the power supply system of these robots are: nominal supply voltage (1-phase: 100–120 V, 200–240 V or 3-phase 200–575 V AC), frequency of the supply voltage (50 Hz or 60 Hz), the nominal power consumed by industrial robot. The dynamics of power consumption in the power supply system of the controlled robot can be studied by recording instan¬taneous values of voltages and currents in each phase of the power grid. In this article, results are presented for the measurements of mentioned instantaneous values for a chosen single-phase powered robot, taken by specialized recorder. The measurements obtained from the recorder allows the calculation of numerically various energetic values in the power supply system of the robot: peak-peak values, RMS values, coefficients of deformation and values of harmonic amplitudes (FFT), values of active, reactive and apparent power and the power coefficient (tg?). The analysis of the waveforms of the instantaneous values of voltage and current allows the determination of the occurrence of transient states during the work of robot axes and characterizing its duration and the range of value changes. The analyses conducted can be used to properly design the protection systems of the power supply system, the eventual selection of filters for higher harmonics, and to determine the effective power consumption of the studied robot. Central and Eastern Europe countries face unique challenges to secure financing for their green transition due to their economic and political background. Among all of the players in the global economy, SMEs significantly impact the environment but face barriers in the adoption of green practices and sustainable investments. Despite the potential benefits of green investments, SMEs often lack awareness and resources to engage in sustainable initiatives effectively. The aim of the research is to investigate the awareness of SMEs of green financing tools. Our focus is set on the identification of similarities and differences between companies and the creation of segments based on different levels of knowledge of green financing and their overall financial situation. The research used a survey-based approach, focusing on SMEs in the Silesian Voivodeship (Poland), a region with a strong industrial heritage and undergoing green transformation. The data was collected from 200 Polish SMEs in the Silesian region and analysed by factor and cluster analysis. Responses were analysed to identify attitudes, levels of awareness, and readiness for green financing. The segmentation reveals distinct profiles regarding financial health and engagement with green finance. It is possible to create two segments of passive idealists and informed realists. Both acknowledged that green investments are more financially demanding. However, the informed realists displayed higher levels of engagement with green financing, including seeking and receiving expert advice and understanding application processes. The introductory section delineates the scale and dynamics of recent migration to Poland, paying particular attention to its repercussions for the school system. The subsequent theoretical section clarifies key constructs – Polish as a second language, the language of schooling (Język Edukacji Szkolnej, JES), and Cummins’s BICS/CALP model – underscoring the stringent linguistic demands that JES imposes on learners’ writing development. Later sections synthesise current research on writing and document the specific obstacles faced by migrant students, including cross‑linguistic interference, limited access to genre‑appropriate models, and assessment practices that insufficiently accommodate their linguistic profiles. The article concludes with practice‑oriented recommendations for educators and researchers and calls for further empirical studies aimed at devising effective instructional and systemic solutions.Item type:Article, Access status: Open Access , Non-history-based DEM model for predictions of numerical earthquakes(Wydawnictwa AGH, 2025) Klejment, PiotrStick-slip phenomena roughly describe the behavior of a tectonic fault. A simplified model of stick-slip events is often assumed in laboratory experiments and numerical simulations of laboratory earthquakes. This work proposes a more advanced approach. The Discrete Element Method (DEM) was used to generate a numerical model for simulating the laboratory earthquakes in which the granular layer was taken into account. The proposed model takes into account an irregular, random pattern of stress increase and decrease in such a system. At 5,000 selected, regularly spaced time points, the so-called “checkpoints”, 25 parameters were measured, describing the average state of all particles forming the numerical fault at a given moment. The created dataset was used to train the Random Forest algorithm, and then, as part of the tests, this algorithm was used to predict subsequent stick-slip events. The algorithm made predictions solely on the basis of information about the current parameters of the particles. Importantly, the predictions made did not use the history of previous stick-slip events. Feature Importance and SHapley Additive exPlanations (SHAP) were used to assess the contribution of individual particle physical parameters to the prediction results.Item type:Article, Access status: Open Access , Influence of selected corrosive environment on the scale formation in selected materials manufactured by directed energy deposition 3D printing technology(AGH University Press, 2025) Małysza, Marcin; Rząd, Ewa; Zięba, ŁukaszAdditive technologies, and in particular Directed Energy Deposition (DED), are becoming an increasingly important tool for the rapid production of components operating in, among others, the energy, aviation, petrochemical industries, where components are exposed to extreme thermochemical conditions. In the article, the influence of various corrosive atmospheres atmospheric air, water vapor and SO?-argon- mixture – on the process of scale formation on the surface of materials manufactured using Directed Energy Deposition (DED) technology is presented. The tests were carried out at a temperature of 600°C (for air and water vapor) and 300°C (for SO?-argon atmosphere). The mass increase and surface damage was monitored. It has been shown that the chemical composition of materials, especially the content of alloying elements such as Cr and Ni, is crucial for corrosion resistance. Any changes in the housing stock are, therefore, important to society. The Polish real estate market has not only been developing dynamically in recent years but has also been influenced by various measures of state interventionism. Even though the first phenomenon should be evaluated positively, interventionism highlights the imperfection of the analyzed market and makes us lean toward the phenomenon of flipping. In particular, it was determined that the main link of the valuation approach was the value of the land use. Value is the basis of quantitative correlation under the equivalent exchange, the value of land use can be determined by applying three common approaches: comparison, cost, and income. The authors of the research present a methodology for assessing the value of the right to manage agricultural land use and its efficiency. The work supplies the calculated book value of land use under the actual status of agricultural lands in Ukraine according to the average indicators (in the present research, this was the period of 2017–2021) and the economic market value of land use while considering innovative investments in land improvement that are focused on establishing the more effective use of agricultural lands. It is stated that the valuation approach toward assessing the efficiency of agricultural land use can be used to specify the value of the right to manage land use in the amount of its general value as well as assess its efficiency. The suggested algorithm and statistical indicators were used to calculate the right and efficiency of agricultural land use management for all categories of farms and, particularly, in terms of agricultural enterprises of the different forms of economic activity.
