Wydział Fizyki i Informatyki StosowanejAt the LHC collider, beams of protons and/or heavy ions collide head-on at different centre-of-mass energies. In a significant part of the proton-proton collisions, one or both of the original beam protons remain intact and are scattered at very small polar angles. In such diffractive processes, inter alia, pairs of jets can be produced. The aim of this thesis was to get acquainted with the Monte Carlo simulation of diffractive dijet production in the proton-proton collisions at the LHC energies. The selection criteria used for dijets selection closely follow those used in the analyses of the ATLAS data. Obtained Monte Carlo predictions are compared with a published ATALS measurement at $\sqrt s$ = 7 TeV performed using the rapidity gap method for tagging single diffractive events. In addition predictions for ongoing measurement at $\sqrt s$ = 13 TeV of dijet production in single diffractive events based on the tagged intact proton method have been obtained.Item type:Thesis, Access status: Restricted , Exclusive production of opposite-charge muon pairs in ultra-peripheral heavy-ion collisions in the ATLAS experiment at the LHC(Data obrony: 2021-01-29) Domijan, Karolina

Four learning machine algorithms have been applied to identify ? leptons in the ATLAS experiment: projective likelihood estimator (LL), Probability Density Estimator with Range Searches (PDE-RS), Neural Network, and the Support Vector Machine (SVM). All four methods have similar performance, which is significantly better than the baseline cut analysis. This indicates that the achieved background rejection is close to the maximal achievable performance.Item type:Thesis, Access status: Restricted , Rozbudowa i uaktualnienie oprogramowania systemu GGSS detektora ATLAS TRT(Data obrony: 2020-01-24) Kasprzak, Arkadiusz; Cierpich, Jarosław

Wydział Fizyki i Informatyki StosowanejItem type:Article, Access status: Open Access , The ATLAS experiment simulations as the computing challenge for the ACK CYFRONET AGH(Wydawnictwa AGH, 2008) Kaczmarska, Anna Ewa; Małecki, Paweł; Szymocha, Tadeusz; Richter-Wąs, ElżbietaThe present High Energy Physics (HEP) experiments require unprecedented amount of computing power and storage space. We present the WLCG structure of the LHC computing, which will be used to perform data processing required by the ATLAS collaboration. We also describe the ATLAS detector full simulation chain. Finally, we quantify the computing needs and up-to-date usage of the ACK CYFRONET AGH resources by the ATLAS detector simulations.Item type:Thesis, Access status: Restricted , The web-based application for the ATLAS trigger configurations browsing and editing(Data obrony: 2021-02-01) Moszkowicz, Piotr
