Wybrane narzędzia kamienne średniowiecznego górnictwa Cu i Fe, Spania Dolina koło Bańskiej Bystrzycy, Słowacja

Rock hammers and grinders used for processing of Cu minerals at Spania Dolina near Banska Bystrica were examined with the use of mineralogical methods. Obtained data confirm the hammers are made of hard light quartzite while grinders were made of andesite. Examination of local stream gravels at Spania Dolina showed the absence of rocks used for preparation of both tools confirming the import of mentioned rocks to Spania Dolina. Because of this field works and collcetioning of samples were performed at area. Outcrops of andesites and quartzites preset near Bańska Bystrzyca were visited for sampling of rocks. Next samples of rocks were examined using identical methods as were used for examination of stone tools. Examination performed confirm the andesites were imported from area of Polana volcano where andesite rocks are very frequent. Quartzite are present at outcrops near Lubietova and were observed near shaft Ludvik near Mines of Spania Dolina. Both andesite and quartzite were collected as rounded pebbles of useful shape from local streams of Spania Dolina and Libietowa.
