Item type:Article, Access status: Open Access , A brief review of recent developments in the integration of deep learning with GIS(Wydawnictwa AGH, 2022) Mohan, Shyama; Giridhar, M.V.S.S.The interaction of Deep Learning (DL) methods with Geographical Information System (GIS) provides the opportunity to obtain new insights into environmental processes through the spatial, temporal and spectral resolutions as well as data integration. The two technologies may be connected to form a dynamic system that is incredibly well adapted to the evaluation of environmental conditions through the interrelationships of texture, size, pattern, and process. This perspective has acquired popularity in multiple disciplines. GIS is significantly dependant on processors, particularly for 3D calculations, map rendering, and route calculation whereas DL can process huge amounts of data. DL has received a lot of attention recently as a technology with a plethora of promising results. Furthermore, the growing use of DL methods in a variety of disciplines, including GIS, is evident. This study tries to provide a brief overview of the use of DL methods in GIS. This paper introduces the essential DL concepts relevant to GIS, the majority of which have been published in recent years. This research explores remote sensing applications and technologies in areas such as mapping, hydrological modelling, disaster management, and transportation route planning. Finally, conclusions on contemporary framework methodologies and suggestions for further studies are provided.Item type:Article, Access status: Open Access , A case study on building information (BIM) and land information (LIM) models including geospatial data(Wydawnictwa AGH, 2023) Borkowski, Andrzej Szymon; Kochański, Łukasz; Wyszomirski, Michał SławomirLandscape information modeling (LIM) is a new trend in spatial projects made using BIM technology. Elements of land development are, not only in the opinion of the authors, just as essential as the element of a building object. In turn, GIS data can be used to model larger areas based on combined data from GIS and BIM models. The lack of the strict integration of BIM and GIS (ISO/TR 23262:2021 covers GIS/BIM interoperability, ISO 19166 is in preparation) prevents the modeling of land development objects, both existing and planned, in many cases. The modeling process using the current and known BIM tools and processes were presented to efficiently develop a model of a building object with its surroundings. Modeling took place using best practices that are collected and used in the Polish reality. The work presents an object-oriented approach to modeling elements of spatial development with the preservation of the so-called occupational hygiene. By applying the above principles, it is possible to develop a »good« LIM model that fits the current trends and developments in BIM.Item type:Article, Access status: Open Access , A conceptual model for web knowledge acquisition system with GIS component(Wydawnictwa AGH, 2009) Ligęza, Antoni; Ernst, Sebastian; Nalepa, Grzegorz Jacek; Szpyrka, MarcinBuilding efficient tools for supporting Knowledge Acquisition and Knowledge Management is a challenge and hot research topic with potentially infinite numbers of applications. The paper describes a case study that reports the evolution of a coastline over a period of more than 100 years using medium and large-scale metric maps available in different periods. In fact, the coastlines were obtained from the source maps of the Italian Cadastre (dated 1890), from numerical cartography available on the coastline and acquired in different period at scales 1:5000 and 1:2000 and, more recently, from the Google Earth Pro platform. To analyse the evolution of the coastline a new procedure has been performed which is based on the use of GIS software, in particular a plugin called DSAS that allows the evaluation of the changes in the coastline and also obtains a statistical analysis of its evolution. The results showed the ease and applicability of the method in determining the evolution of the coastline and the strong erosion of a stretch of coastline with important socio-economic consequences and repercussions was highlighted in the analysed case study.Item type:Article, Access status: Open Access , A method for hazard mapping illustrated with an example of Fire Service interventions(Wydawnictwa AGH, 2020) Kowalczyk, Anna Maria; Bajerowski, Tomasz; Ogrodniczak, MichałSpatial information systems are already widely used and are commonly applied in crisis management. The aim of the study was to develop a method for mapping hazards as a tool supporting crisis management processes and decision‑making processes for the purposes of security and activities of the Fire Service, and the organisation of the National Rescue and Fire System. As part of the study, formulas determining the scale of danger of each event, and a danger scale factor were developed. Hazard maps were compiled using various methods of cartographic presentation, including interpolation, chorogram, and hotspot. The data used was information from the National Fire Service, from an area accepted as representative. The suggested solution proposes a new method for spatial analysis which takes into account not only the number of events as such, but also the weight of hazards they generate, the specified scale of dangers. The conducted study indicates that the hazard map compiled using this method show more spatial relationships than raw statistical data, which enables a better analysis of the studied phenomenon. The end result of the study is the development of algorithms enabling the compilation of a hazard map which takes into account not only the very fact of the occurrence of a hazard but also its weight.Item type:Article, Access status: Open Access , A Python library for the Jupyteo IDE Earth observation processing tool enabling interoperability with the QGIS System for use in data science(Wydawnictwa AGH, 2022) Bednarczyk, MichałThis paper describes JupyQgis - a new Python library for Jupyteo IDE enabling interoperability with the QGIS system. Jupyteo is an online integrated development environment for earth observation data processing and is available on a cloud platform. It is targeted at remote sensing experts, scientists and users who can develop the Jupyter notebook by reusing embedded open-source tools, WPS interfaces and existing notebooks. In recent years, there has been an increasing popularity of data science methods that have become the focus of many organizations. Many scientific disciplines are facing a significant transformation due to data-driven solutions. This is especially true of geodesy, environmental sciences, and Earth sciences, where large data sets, such as Earth observation satellite data (EO data) and GIS data are used. The previous experience in using Jupyteo, both among the users of this platform and its creators, indicates the need to supplement its functionality with GIS analytical tools. This study analyzed the most efficient way to combine the functionality of the QGIS system with the functionality of the Jupyteo platform in one tool. It was found that the most suitable solution is to create a custom library providing an API for collaboration between both environments. The resulting library makes the work much easier and simplifies the source code of the created Python scripts. The functionality of the developed solution was illustrated with a test use case.Item type:Article, Access status: Open Access , Accessibility to places of evacuation for inhabitants of flood-prone areas in Mazovia province(Wydawnictwa AGH, 2017) Borowska-Stefańska, Marta; Wiśniewski, Szymon; Andrei, Mădălina-TeodoraThis article att empts to map out accessibility to places of evacuation from flood-prone areas to the nearest and most-accessible public utility facilities within the boundaries of the Mazovia province of Poland with the use of the two-step floating catchment area method (2SFCA). A flood-prone area is defined as an area of the so-called 100-year water that was delineated on flood hazard maps. In order to accomplish the aim of the work, it was necessary to use data from the resources of the Topographic Objects Database (BDOT) and OpenStreetMap (OSM). It was concluded that the worst accessibility to places of evacuation within 15 minutes may be found in the southeastern part of the Mazovia province as well as along the Bug and Narew Rivers, which is where flood plains are wide and many residential buildings are located.
It is commonly performed on the basis of raster data with saved height attributes. An undoubted advantage of the application of raster is the speed and the easiness of the analysis but this solution has also many limitations. One of them is the impossibility of executing a correct analysis for a 3D city. The analysis performed only on raster data cannot answer the question, what happens to vertical elements of buildings and yet surfaces of these elements (walls) are far greater in big cities than horizontal and oblique ones, which we are able to save as raster images [11]. It is only recently that the tools are available, which make it possible to analyze the shading on 3D models. However, such tools have a lot disadvantages, they are expensive and have some limitations. On the example of the ArcGIS application, the following limitations can be enumerated: difficulties, while determining shadowed surfaces together with their classification, in the case of the Bentley Microstation V8i application, there is no influence on the output classification, the access to the generated data is carried out by displaying results. Additional software for these applications is created but it is payable and also does not give 100% control over the presentation of results. It is in this article that we will take a closer look at the feasibility of an analysis of shading of high urban buildings and its visualization using an algorithm for ray tracing that is available in the Blender application available under the GPL license. The author tested the work of the application on an example of an artificially built part of a 3D city and on a part of New York.Item type:Article, Access status: Open Access , An attempt at the automation of the routing of mountain forest roads with the use of GIS spatial analyses(Wydawnictwa AGH, 2019) Gołąb, Janusz; Pirowski, TomaszThe routing of road corridors in the project of a forest road network in the mountains, along with defining the functions of these roads, is the most important activity in the entire task. It must be preceded by a detailed inventory consisting of many factors characterising the analysed transport area, including economic, technical or environmental factors. This study presents an attempt at the semi-automatic routing of road corridors with the use of GIS technology. The original multi-stage methodology proposed by the present authors is based on raster analyses of the Digital Terrain Model at a resolution of 1 m. The initial stage consists in a preliminary outline of the road network being designed, which is performed by an experienced designer on a contour map. Due to the complicated terrain in mountain areas, the pre-determined road sections are divided into sections for which a generalised direction in the form of a straight line can be indicated. On the basis of the azimuths of these particular direction lines, »targeted« terrain inclinations are calculated for each section separately, which help in decisions concerning the location of the planned road sections. The results obtained indicate the key role of the initial concept of the designed road network, as outlined by the expert, and based on the expert's professional experience. The problem lies in strongly varied terrain, which forces the designer to use short sections of corridors. This, in turn, significantly increases the amount of work. Good effects of road routing automation can be obtained in areas where land relief is complicated. The designed locations of road sections must be finally verified in terms of terrain inclination along the designated lines, which is essential for the possibility of subsequent detailed design, construction and use of road sections.Item type:Thesis, Access status: Restricted , Analiza deformacji powierzchni terenu wywołanych przekształceniami antropogenicznymi przy wykorzystaniu GIS(Data obrony: 2021-01-22) Suchecka, Anna

Wydział Geologii, Geofizyki i Ochrony ŚrodowiskaIn high mountains glacial landforms are often associated with rock glaciers which are related to creeping mountain permafrost in periglacial realm. In case of the Tatra Mountains both glacial and periglacial processes had been active during the final stage of the last glaciation when they left distinguishable landforms. The aim of this study is to characterize of unusual discrete debris accumulation which are associated with true Lateglacial recessional moraine in Czarny Staw Gąsienicowy Valley. Detailed geomorphological mapping with supporting of LiDAR DEM analysis, clasts shape and roundness analysis and, in aim of relative age dating of rock surfaces, Schmidt hammer test were performed. Results indicate three stages of glacier recession. The glacier was from its eastern side in contact with talus rock glacier. On the base of presented results of geomorphological and sedimentological analysis it can be inferred that described in the literature high ridge of Czarna Pasza stage moraine is, in fact, the lateral rim of rock glacier which was in contact with “ice” glacier tongue. Similar stage of weathering of moraine SW3 and described rock glacier indicate the same age of these landforms. Succeeding lobes of debris on the surface of described rock glacier indicate three stage of activity of this landform. Special geological settings of rock glacier catchment area allow to depict changing routes of debris transport path in the each stage of the rock glacier activity. Described relation between moraines and rock glaciers in the Tatra Mountains indicates for former coexistence of glacial and periglacial processes in close proximity.Item type:Thesis, Access status: Restricted , Analiza i mikrosymulacja ruchu turystycznego w Tatrach Zachodnich w Polsce(Data obrony: 2012-07-10) Fronczysty, Kamila
