    The deposits of zinc and lead ores in Poland are one of the largest in Europe. The paper presents Chrzanów region including geographic and administrative position geomorphology and hydrography, as well as the history of zinc and lead ores mining. It discusses the local geological and hydrogeological conditions within the impact of a sedimentation pond of liquidated in 2010 Trzebionka mine, in relation to the impact of this landfill on the condition of surface water and groundwater. It also discusses what are the effects of mine closure and the impact on the groundwater chemistry during increase water level for the main groundwater basin GZWP 452 – which make the supplying base for the Chrzanów and Trzebinia region. It is also shortly characterized the impact of post-flotation waste disposal on the soil and plants.
