Wydział Geologii, Geofizyki i Ochrony ŚrodowiskaThe stone elements of Gothic architecture show the development of masonry and construction in Krakow at the end of the Middle Ages, including the influence of western culture, education, society and the development of trade and economic and political situation in Poland. Among the rocks used for the implementation of the decorative elements were diagnosed mainly Tertiary Jurassic limestones, Triassic dolomites, limestone Pińczów and Carpathian sandstone. Occasionally uses material from outside the Polish borders then, as marble Ammonitico Rosso, as well as religious grounds purchased a sculpture made from alabaster. A reader has got introduced to the Gothic architecture discussed in details at the example of the cathedral. A particular attention has been paid to the variety of types and provenance of stones used in constructing and ornamenting the outer walls and the interior of the church.
