    The reliability analysis of recovery procedures in GMPLS-based optical IP networks

    This PhD dissertation is devoted to the reliability analysis and differentiation of recovery methods which can be applied in Generalized Multi-Protocol Label Switching (GMPLS) controlled IP-over-DWDM networks. A brief overview of GMPLS-based networks is given, and methods aiming at pro-viding the survivability in such networks are characterized. The thesis of the dissertation states that It is possible to objectively compare the ąuality of different recovery procedures in communication networks. To prove such a statement, the novel measure Quality of Recovery (QoR) is pro-posed. Such a measure can be used as a basis for an objective comparison. On the basis of the QoR framework the numerical analysis of different methods is presented. One layer as well as multi-layer recovery is covered. Different aspects of recovery in GMPLS-based networks are described from the reliability viewpoint. The first thorough reliability and Mean Time to Failure analysis of a novel recovery techniąue based on preconfigured protection cycles (p-cycles) is presented.
