Item type:Article, Access status: Open Access , Geothermal fields of New Zealand in tourism industry - the case of complementary assets and competitive products(2015) Pijet-Migoń, Edyta; Migoń, PiotrGeothermal phenomena in the North Island of New Zealand have been a basis of tourism industry since the mid-19th century. Their highlights include geysers, hot springs, mud pools, steam vents, craters, and various silica deposition features. Five geothermal sites, Te Puia Whakarewarewa, Waimangu, Wai-O-Tapu, Orakei Korako, and Craters of the Moon, are subjects of this study which is focused on interrelated issues of diversity, accessibility, and interpretation. The sites are sufficiently different in terms of natural phenomena to be perceived as complementary, offering jointly a comprehensive picture of geothermal phenomena. However, cooperation between their properties hardly exists. In promotion, unusual scenic values and record features are emphasized, whereas more in-depth interpretation is limited. Wydział Geologii, Geofizyki i Ochrony ŚrodowiskaCelem pracy jest wykazanie znaczenia wód geotermalnych w rozwoju turystyki na przykładzie Dystryktu Rotorua w Nowej Zelandii. W pracy omówiono różnorodne sposoby wykorzystania wód geotermalnych w turystyce. Wykazano, że wody geotermalne mają największy wpływ na rozwój turystyki na badanym obszarze. Przeprowadzono badania ankietowe, które udowodniły, że Dystrykt Rotorua kojarzony jest głównie z wodami geotermalnymi i to one stanowią główny cel przyjazdu turystów. Przeanalizowano inne badania o podobnej tematyce i zwrócono uwagę na zagrożenia płynące z rozwoju turystyki na obszarach geotermalnych. Dyskutowano nad sposobami minimalizacji tych zagrożeń w przyszłości.Item type:Article, Access status: Open Access , Złoża węgla kamiennego Nowej Zelandii. Komunikat(Wydawnictwa AGH, 2007) Kwiecińska, BarbaraTwo coal basins - Buller and Greymouth on the West Coast of the South Island in New Zealand are characterized in this paper. The Buller Basin comprises vast fluvial and deltaic deposits of Brunner Formation (Eocene). The coal-bearing rocks consist of conglomerates, sandstones, mudstones and coal seams deposited in marine areas and in shallow sea water with weak circulation. The samples for study were taken from the Mangatini seam, Webb Opencast mine. Maceral analysis revealed content 94% of vitrinite, mainly detrovitrinite, 2% of liptinite and 4% of inertinite. Reflectance of vitrinite was variable Rmax vary from 0.80% to 1.35%. Coals contained from 26% to 32% of volatile matter. Coals occurring in the Greymouth Basin belong to Paparoa Formation, which spread out from Cretaceous to Palaeogene. These coals, regardless of the older age, showed slightly weaker coalification degree in comparison with coals from the Buller Basin (Rmax = 0.55% to 0.85%, volatile matter = 37% to 43%).
