Wydział Geologii, Geofizyki i Ochrony ŚrodowiskaPolish Rotliegend basin represent part of the great Southern Permian Basin in Western and Central Europe. It’s basin formation history started in the latest Carboniferous. Development of the Polish Rotliegend Basin was controlled mainly by tectonic and climate factors. It has manifested within individual sedimentary sequences as thicker conglomerate formations in most subsiding zones. The evolution of Polish Rotliegend Basin infill continued during Permo-Mezozoic until Late Cretaceous when central part of the basin was uplifted. The burial history of the Polish Lowlands Basin reveals that Late Permian and Early Triassic periods represent the main subsidence phase. Late Cretaceous subsidence episode has manifested only in the central part of Polish Lowlands Basin. During Late Cretaceous the burial wasn’t controlled by any external factors so that the subsidence process was running gently.
