Item type:Thesis, Access status: Restricted , Metacarbonates with cherts from Prins Karls Forland, Svalbard Archipelago(Data obrony: 2019-01-31) Lis, Laura
Wydział Geologii, Geofizyki i Ochrony ŚrodowiskaPrins Karls Forland is the westernmost island of the Svalbard Archipelago. It is a part of the Southwestern Basement Province, presumably Proterozoic in age. Greenschist facies metacarbonates with cherts were sampled in 2018 during AGH University of Science and Technology Geological Expedition to Spitsbergen from the metasedimentary Scotiafjellet Group on the northern shore of Selvågen. The composition of the metacarbonate rock is mainly a fine crystalline matrix of zoned magnesite and quartz. Cherts main constituent is microcrystalline silica, euhedral dolomite with minor content of abundant carbonaceous matter and pyrite. Organic detritus is present in cherts but its degree of decomposition is high. Vein present in the rock are formed mostly of albite, dolomite and muscovite. The temperature of metamorphism estimated from the Raman spectrum of the carbonaceous matter equals 305±50 ˚C.
