Item type:Article, Access status: Open Access , Dwadzieścia lat eksperymentu z lokalną partycypacją mniejszości romskiej w podhalańskiej gminie(Wydawnictwa AGH, 2017) Witkowski, Maciej; Nowicka, EwaThe text is a case study of the relationship between the initiation of activities defined in the Roma Government Integration Program as being aimed at increasing the participation of the Roma community in the social life of rural areas, and the real nature of relations between Roma and non-Roma. The article was devoted to the role of local government in implementing Roma integration strategies. We describe the situation of a Roma community belonging to the Bergitka Roma group. The main subject of analysis is the consequences of the »integration« measures taken by officials and local policymakers in contact with the inhabitants of the Roma settlement. From the perspective of local authorities, the current situation is defined as difficult. Its representatives try to avoid on one hand accusations of discrimination against ethnic minority communities on one hand, and of favouring the Roma on the other. Balancing the expectations of both sides, local authorities use solutions known as »participatory actions«.Item type:Article, Access status: Open Access , Konwersja religijna i konwersja kulturowa. Romowie zielonoświątkowcy w Szaflarach(Wydawnictwa AGH, 2014) Nowicka-Rusek, EwaThe article presents specific ways of transgression of the social barriers which divide Roma communities and the non-Roma majority society. This transgression is connected with the concept of cultural conversion based on religious conversion to the evangelical faith of Pentecostalism. Acceptance of the rules of thought in Pentecostalism has enabled a Roma/Gypsy local community to reject the traditional Roma cultural forms of life which close the way of integration. I analyse one Roma/Gypsy local community, the Zadział settlement in Szaflary village, almost totally converted into Pentecostalism. I trace transformations in the lifestyle of Roma converts, promising integration through acceptance on the part of the majority society. This cultural change is possible due to rejection of several traits crucial for Roma culture, here called »core traits«. I also indicate elements of the culture of neighbouring non-Roma local inhabitants which work against the process. One of them is the negative attitude of the Roman Catholic Church, dominating in Poland generally and in Carpathian villages particularly, towards evangelical denominations.Item type:Thesis, Access status: Restricted , Proces budowy tożsamości narodowej Romów, w oparciu o doświadczenie Zagłady polskich Romów(Data obrony: 2011-12-20) Łuszczek, Dorota
