    Badania mineralogiczne lessu z Sandomierza

    This M. Sc. research relates to the mineralogical analysis of loess derived from a loess profile that is located in the valley of Queen Jadwiga in Sandomierz. This particular profile represents a vertical wall, up to 8 meters high, that is composed of typical yellow loess. Grain fraction greater than 0,25 mm have been separated and have been analysed with the use of a binocular microscope. Natural and anthropogenic components have been found in the examined sediment. An analysis with the use of a scanning electron microscope enabled to determine microstructures that were formed on the surface of quartz grains during their transport. The changes in the mineral composition, the proportions of the minerals that are present in various parts of the profile and the micromorphology of the quartz grains surface, enabled to undergo a trial to reconstruct the weather conditions prevailing at that time. Moreover restore the environment of sedimentation, its dynamics and the length of grains transport was done. Obtained results constituted the basis for classification of researched loess. They have been classified as partially washed out aeolian loess.
