The use of Six Sigma in process-improvement requires the systematic and disciplined use of specific tools and techniques in the DMAIC cycle. The DMAIC cycle includes five phases: Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, and Control this is one of the most popular Six Sigma improvement cycles that are used in improving existing processes. When improving processes in accordance with the DMAIC cycle, it is important to have knowledge of the tools and techniques that are used and the ability to select them for the specifics of a project and the appropriate phases of the cycle. This article critically reviews the literature on the use of individual tools in the appropriate phases of the DMAIC cycle and uses a semi-structured interview method with specialists in the field of using Six Sigma. The obtained results of the analyses can contribute to the study of the validity of using individual tools and techniques for the effective use of Six Sigma and provide a useful comparative review for theoreticians and practitioners who want to use the appropriate tools in the DMAIC cycle.Item type:Article, Access status: Open Access , Capability process assessment in Six Sigma approach(2007) Czarski, AndrzejStatistical techniques occupy a particular place in the organizational culture Six Sigma that is used in many renowned organizations (Motorola, General Electric, Bombardier, Nokia, Sony, BMW, Philips etc.) in order to achieve in the shortest possible time the highest quality level. In the Six Sigma approach the assessment of a process potential is made relating to client's expectations using long-term and short-term process capability - correspondingly Cp, Cpk and Pp, Ppk. The basis of such an assessment of process capability is partition of the total process variability into two components: the component independent on time (the same material, operator, tools and process setting) and the component dependent on time (caused by e.g. changes oí raw material, process setting etc.). Such a partition oí the variability is necessary, it enables the better understanding of the process and in consequence - its improvement. The aim of research has been the assessment of short-term and long-term capability of the process of drop forgings heat treatment regarding the hardness. Understanding the evolving interest and utilization of Six Sigma can provide valuable insights into its current significance and prospects. Using data from Google Trends, Google Books, Web of Science, and Scopus, this study examined the search volumes and interests in keywords and phrases that were related to Six Sigma over a specified period of time. The global analysis revealed the overall direction of interest in Six Sigma worldwide, highlighting periods of peak interest and potential significant shifts in the method’s popularity. By identifying those times with the highest concentrations of interest, the article provides a deeper understanding of the adoption and perception of Six Sigma. On top of this, Six Sigma was compared in popularity (by trends) with other known methods such as Lean, Kaizen, PDCA, and TQM. This research contributes to the existing body of knowledge by shedding light on the current trends and future directions of Six Sigma globally.
