Wydział Geologii, Geofizyki i Ochrony ŚrodowiskaCracow is one of the most beautiful Polish cities with a unique historical meaning as well as rich architectural achievements. It has about 3,500 historic buildings, dominated by religious buildings constructed with different construction materials. St Cross church is one of the oldest buildings of that type in Cracow . For its construction and interior design was used stone from the surrounding city. It was mainly Jurassic limestone and Carpathian sandstone, which was used in various architectural elements. But over the years this material has been damaged as a result of various damaging factors , leading to a reduction in the state of conservation of the monument. Therefore, during the research works there were characterized types of stone material deterioration , which is described in detail in this elaboration. In addition, appropriate methods of conservation are presented, which aim to improve the conservation status of the stone in this building.
