Item type:Thesis, Access status: Restricted , Petrologia soli z salaru chilijskiego(Data obrony: 2012-09-26) Pabiś, Ewelina
Wydział Geologii, Geofizyki i Ochrony ŚrodowiskaThe objective of this paper was mineralogical and petrographical characteristics of salt from Salar de Atacama, located in the driest place in the world – Atacama Desert (in Antofagasta Region, N Chile). Salar de Atacama is the largest chilean salt pan and the second largest salar in the world. The base of this work were mineralogical and petrological examinations of 5 samples of evaporitic rocks from the Salar de Atacama. These specimens were examined by qualitative phase analysis (microscopic analysis in the transmitted light, the X-ray diffraction method – DSH) and chemical method – Atomic Absorption Spectrometry (AAS). All research revealed that the major mineral component of all the samples is anhydrite and detritic material (clay minerals and quartz). Moreover, depending on region of the Salar de Atacama where the samples were taken, halite, gypsum, calcite and dolomite, were identified. Content of minerals in each samples is variable, it follows from hydrogeochemical zoning of the Salar de Atacama groundwater system.
