Wydział Geologii, Geofizyki i Ochrony ŚrodowiskaGround Penetration Radar is a radio wave method used to survey subsurface areas. Because of its non-invasiveness, the system has many applications, like localization of underground infrastructure, empty spaces or studies inside buildings. Activity of GPR is related to electromagnetic field – the propagated signal is an electromagnetic wave. The receiver antenna records the reflected waves and uses them to create a cross section image, which reflects the structure of the investigated area. Data sets from GPR surveys conducted in two historical buildings (Bazylika Grobu Bożego in Miechów and Bazylika Konkatedralna pw. Wniebowzięcia NMP in Kołobrzeg) were processed and analyzed. The aim of this was to localize and interpret anomalous zones which may be important for archeological surveys. Many such structures were found in both buildings – mainly vaults and empty spaces, but also another big-sized heterogeneities, possibly related with foundations or fragments of previous older churches.
