Item type:Article, Access status: Open Access , City, countryside and nature as discursive devices used to strengthen the national identity in Icelandic cinematography(Wydawnictwa AGH, 2014) Konefał, Sebastian JakubSince its inception the Icelandic film industry has used the strategy of combining telluric elements with nationalistic narratives. In many films one may also find visual structures that can be linked with the »tourist gaze«- the term as we know it from the texts of John Urry. Despite a focus on some unique qualities of Icelandic nature and its cultural heritage (that can be attractive to foreign viewers) the specificity of cinematic production processes on the island belong to the structure of local, national cinema. Moreover, the 1980s, considered as the time of the rebirth of the Icelandic film industry and its rapid modernization, are full of films containing conservative or leftist telluric topics which are difficult for foreign audiences to understand. A new, transnational quality of Icelandic film features began with the film debut of Friðrik Þór Friðriksson in 1987. His fusion of modernist and postmodernist plots has encouraged other filmmakers to start the process of re-interpretation of the classic narrative structures, and to render the ironic demystification of some nationalistic themes.Item type:Article, Access status: Open Access , Humanizowanie nowoczesności na przykładzie związków miasta i literatury(Wydawnictwa AGH, 2023) Więch, KarolThe article attempts to illustrate three relations between literature and a city. In the first one, the city becomes the content of literature as an inspiration, a reconstructed map, but also an individual experience. In the second, literature initiates creative activities within the city. They are represented by literary sculptures, modifications of residential buildings, as well as interactive applications that reveal the local space in the context of literature. The third relationship narrows down to the international UNESCO program based on the coherence of activities on the border of literary art and marketing. The modern city becomes an open project aimed, in particular, at creating a sense of closeness between the reader-resident-tourist and the urban space. It is an opportunity to create a completely new quality in the experience of literature, but also in its production and distribution where humanization plays a key role in creating and sustaining community.Item type:Thesis, Access status: Restricted , Rola zieleni w kształtowaniu środowiska terenów zurbanizowanych na wybranych przykładach(Data obrony: 2018-01-12) Krakowiak, Jadwiga

The reconstruction of the existing road network and introduction of a new, alternative type of transport can radically change the acoustic conditions occurring in a city. As a result of this, an assessment of the noise nuisance of a fragment of the city of Bydgoszcz - a city located in the northern part of Poland - which had undergone changes connected with transportation, was carried out in the work. The influence of a newly-built tram route »Bydgoszcz-Fordon« on the acoustic conditions occurring in its surroundings was assessed. The studies were carried out in two periods of time (2012 and 2019), corresponding to various spatial states of the terrain. The results confirm that the introduction of an alternative transport solution contributed to a decrease in the level of road traffic noise. This occurs as a result of improved road conditions on modernized road segments, the integration of transportation networks and a decrease in the share of individual road vehicle transport. It was also confirmed that a well-designed tram route can influence changes in transportation habits of users and have a positive effect on the attractiveness of residential areas. This is in line with the concept of sustainable urban transport.Item type:Article, Access status: Open Access , Urban sprawl versus the compact city in the context of spatial policy(Wydawnictwa AGH, 2015) Rogatka, Krzysztof; Sylla, MartaThe aim of this article is to present the multidimensional phenomenon of urban sprawl in relation to the concept of the compact city and spatial policy. Intensive urbanization, which leads to spatial, social, environmental and cultural changes, has been observed in Polish cities and peri-urban areas for many years. The authors distinguish between the negative aspects of urban sprawl and the positive implications of the compact city. Spatial planning should be considered as a tool to manage urban and rural areas. In Poland the spatial planning system consists of three levels: national, regional, and local. It is assumed that spatial policy that contributes to improving cities according to the concept of the compact city can lead to a formation of sustainable urban structure in which society, economy, nature and cultural heritage harmoniously coexist. The case study of Nowe Zerniki estate in Wroclaw is analyzed. Nowe Zerniki exemplifies the concept of the compact city and the brownfield investment ideas that can contribute to the transformation into a sustainable city. It also provides a model for creating modern urban development in accordance with the current architectural, urban, environmental and social requirements.Item type:Article, Access status: Open Access , Wielokulturowość jako artefakt na przykładzie miasta Łódź(Wydawnictwa AGH, 2014) Rajchel, DorotaThe article shows the shape of multiculturalism in contemporary Lodz.
