    From the point of view of engineering geology loess is an important issue. This is due to the high sensitivity of this soil for moisture changes and tendency to collapsing, what can lead to serious structural damage. Therefore, it is important to know their physical and mechanical properties. The aim of this study was geological–engineering evaluation of loess for example communes Michałowice and Kłaj. Evaluation of physical and mechanical properties of loess was based on the author’s results and taken from the literature. It has been shown that the loess are diverse in terms of granulometric composition and physical and mechanical properties, even within the same region of occurrence, which is associated with the origin of their formation. Based on these results, it was found that the loess from communes Michałowice and Kłaj showed no inclination to collapsing.
