    Analiza przyczyn niszczenia kamienia w elewacjach kamiennych wentylowanych i możliwość działań zapobiegawczych na przykładzie wybranych obiektów Krakowa

    The aim of this study was to investigate the causes and symptoms of destruction of stone ventilated facades. 13 buildings in Krakow have been selected to determine to what extent this destruction can be prevented. Sandstones from 5 Polish deposits have been used to cover these 13 buildings. Certain factors and evidence of damage have been identified. The following tests have been performed: petrographic characteristics, water absorption, resistance to forces pulling out construction dowels and fracture toughness. Then, after application of hydrofobization, water absorption was checked once more. Later, the impregnate was used and the resistance to forces pulling out construction dowels and fracture toughness were evaluated. The final conclusion is as follows – the types of damages are correlated with the properties of stone, and that the hydrofobization and impregnation can reduce the rate of the façade destruction.

    Zamknięte przestrzenie w filmach krótkometrażowych Jana Švankmajera – dziedzictwo i konwersja preindustrialnej wyobraźni

    The proposed view on the subject of closed spaces in short films of the Czech artist Jan Švankmajer is a continuation of a research of the text’s author on various aspects of creative output of this one of the most outstanding surrealist filmmaker living today. Švankmajer, a polemical continuator of Giuseppe Arcimboldi’s pictorial works, is carrying out a peculiar conversion of the ideas, which the Italian painter followed in accordance to the spirit of his era, both in relation to the concept of a dialogue and in the context of closed spaces. Situating the plot of many of Švankmajer’s early films in closed places constitutes an important component of the portrayal of human condition as seen by the artist: a man subjected to mechanisms of destruction and living in disharmony and a faulty creature who has lost the capability to remain in natural relation both with his closest environment and the whole world.
