    The following paper is concerned with the issues related to combined heat and power generation (distributed cogeneration). Particular attention is paid to microturbines and reciprocated engines systems. The way and the aim of preparing the technical and economic analysis, which lead to the proper selection and configuration of a small scale CHP unit are described. Benefits connected with the replacement of classical energy generation with combined heat and power generation are analyzed. Particular attention is drawn to the primary energy saving aspect. The preliminary technical and economic analysis of microcogeneration application efficiency in students dormitory is presented, in which there are compared two different devices – a reciprocated gas engine and a gas microturbine.
