In instance to wrong match of drilling mud, there is a crawling rocks effect. In order to prevent this effect, drilling mud with high density are use. Materials which we use to weighting should be a chemical inertness to other components of mud and don't change of technological parameters. Because of high consumption it also should be easily accessible and cheap. In this work we research for replacement barite by chalk in weighted polyglycol drilling mud to reboring clays and shales. Research show that using a chalk and barite on prepared mud successfully weight it to density of 1.5 g/cm3 without significant influence of rheological parameters. Chalk influence similarly like barite at technological parameters and have lower abrasiveness and it's cheaper than barite.Item type:Article, Access status: Open Access , Badania nad zastosowaniem octanu cynku w płuczkach do przewiercania skał ilastych zawierających w składzie nowe polimery PT-51 i PT-52(2010) Pollok, Paweł; Wysocki, SławomirIn this paper results of laboratory research of zinc acetate application in drilling mud for clay and shales were shown. Specific character of HDD caused specific parameters of drilling mud. This drilling method is utilized on terrains with roads, highways, railway tracks, canals, rivers, and highly urbanized areas, where direct pit under the ground is impossible. Trenchless technologies such as HDD have more advantages than the traditional methods. Not only do they shorten time necessary for dig-up, but also the pipelines used during drilling can be placed in any desired position under any territorial barrier. In addition, HDD does not disturb public transportation and most importantly, does not devastate the environment, which makes it the commonly used technology in the construction industry. Specific character of HDD caused specific parameters of drilling mud. Searching innovated solutions is important to fulfill increasing technological requirements. The article presents the final results of the technological parameters HDD mud, designed on bentonit OCMA, and modified by biopolymer PT 300308. In some applications, for example, drilling in areas where the margin between pore pressure and fracture pressure gradients is small, inaccurate predictions of bore hole pressure may lead to serious complications and even a loss of the well. This paper is focused on a flow of yield power law type (pseudo-plastic with the yield stress) fluid in the annular space with the possibility that the inner pipe maybe eccentric. A new mathematical model that is based on a concept of generalized average wall shear rate - wall shear stress relationship is presented. A carefully designed laboratory facility that permits accurate differential pressure measurements as a function of flow rate in both pipe and annular flow has been developed. The desired rheology of the fluids was obtained by mixing two types of polymers (PAC and HEC) with water. Pipe flow measurements have been utilized to produce flow curves and subsequently the fluid rheological characterization (yield stress, consistency index and flow behavior index). The results of measured pressure losses are compared to those predicted by the proposed model. While the discrepancies are noticeable the difference is less than 15% and frequently is even less than 5%. We believe that the proposed model is simple useful for practical design applications.Item type:Article, Access status: Open Access , Laboratory tests newly drawn up non-clay, glycol-potassium drilling mud with the new polymer PT-52 intended to drill clay rocks(2011) Wysocki, Sławomir; Hypsior, Bartosz; Wróblewski, TomaszExaminations are being conducted on the basis of the polyglycol mud with using new PT-52 polymer, as the incriminating evidence chalk is applied. A good drilling fluid should provide optimal cutting transport, have high lubrication in stem and drill bit lubrication as well as stabilize the borehole permanently by sealing the sides of the bore. The most widely used drilling fluids for HDD applications are based on bentonite. Our laboratory research is focused on modification of bentonite OCMA by new polymer to reach certain, required parameters such as low viscosity, high yield point and ability to create gel structure. It's also important to note that minimizing of filtration is highly desired. Based on the research, we can conclude that observed HDD fluids exhibit good technological parameters, as well as low filtration. Our laboratory research proves to be effective at bentonite OCMA modifications with use of new polymers.Item type:Article, Access status: Open Access , Possibilities of applying the vom Berg rheological model in research on polymer-modified drilling muds(Wydawnictwa AGH, 2025) Skrzypaszek, KrzysztofThis article examines the potential application of the Vom Berg rheological model in the technology of polymer-modified drilling muds. In recent years, intensive research has been conducted at the Faculty of Drilling, Oil, and Gas to optimize procedures for selecting rheological models for technological fluids used in drilling operations. One of the key outcomes of this research is the proprietary RheoSolution methodology, applied in this study to assess the adaptability of the Vom Berg rheological model. Originally developed for analyzing the rheology of cement slurries in civil engineering, this model has been utilized here to describe the relationship between shear stress and shear rate in polymer-modified drilling muds. As part of the research, laboratory experiments were conducted at the Drilling Fluids Laboratory of the Faculty of Drilling, Oil, and Gas, focusing on drilling muds modified with xanthan biopolymer. The obtained results served as the basis for a comparative analysis of the classical API methodology and the proposed RheoSolution approach in determining the rheological parameters of the tested fluids. Special attention was given to the applicability of the Vom Berg model as a tool for a more precise characterization of drilling mud behavior under dynamic conditions. This article is part of a broader series of publications aimed at demonstrating the utility and potential advantages of the RheoSolution methodology in studies on the rheological properties of technological drilling muds.Item type:Article, Access status: Open Access , Projektowanie gęstości solanek na bazie soli mrówczanowych(2011) Stec, Maciej; Bazan, GrzegorzThe main subject of this paper is designing of densities of formate based brines (sodium, potassium and cesium formate). They are an alternative to traditional engineering methods. They enable creating less expensive and environmentally safe type of underground installations. The essential advantage of HDD methods is the possibility to avoid easily the obstacles both on the ground and underground. It is of special importance nowadays, when the population is growing rapidly, and the infrastructure in urban areas is in the process of constant development. One of the most important elements of HDD technology is the drilling mud. Similarly to muds used in different boreholes they should fulfill the criteria resulting from the destination of a borehole, minimalize technical difficulties, as well as the risk of investment. It is achieved by choosing liquids of high gels, high yield value, good lubricity, ones which are environmentally safe, as well as ones of a small solid-phase content. In this research, drilling mud with the addition of new polymer PT-52 modified by CO3 ions was tested. Created mud was tested against salt monovalent and bivalent contamination. The temperature resistance and lubricity were examined, too. Test results show that this mud can be used by the industry.Item type:Article, Access status: Open Access , Weighting of new starch-polymer salted mud with PT-23 polymer(2014) Wysocki, Sławomir; Bielewicz, Danuta; Wysocka, Marta; Lewicki, Damian; Wilaszek, JoannaRheological properties of mud should assure high rate of penetration and supply maximal hydraulic power to the hole bottom. From this point of view drilling mud should have as little density and viscosity as possible and also minimal solid phase fraction. By the reason of the hole depth and geological conditions in the region it often occurs that maintenance of low density is impossible and drilling mud have to be treated with weighting materials. The process may cause change of mud rheological parameters and cause decrease of penetration rate. In case of weighted mud there is also a problem consisting in sedimentation of weighting material. During these project realization there was developed recipe of new mud for well completion with new PT-23 polymer. The next step was testing of possibilities of weighting the mud with different weighting materials: barite with grain size lower than 75 µm, barite with grain size lower than 25 µm, commercial barite, hematite, bridging agent M-25. Barite with grain size lower than 75 µm and barite with grain size lower than 25 µm were conditioned in water, then wet separated into fractions.Item type:Article, Access status: Open Access , Wpływ obciążeń pionowych na osiadanie mieszanek gruntowo-glebowych z udziałem domieszek chemicznych i organicznych(2006) Stryczek, Stanisław; Gonet, Andrzej; Rzyczniak, Mirosław; Czekaj, LucynaThe edometric experiments were made on 48 samples of used matrices of drilling mud admixed with soil and organic matter, e.g. sawdust of coniferous trees, straws and selected organic compounds.
