    In recent years there is a significant increase in interest in renewable energy sources. Most common solar energy installation throughout polish households is a solar collector system which support the production of domestic hot water. At present also more and more popular become photovoltaic systems which produce power used, for example, to heathen up the water in household boilers. The main subject of the following master's thesis is to compare the solar thermal systems to the photovoltaic systems with the usage of Polysun software. The main purpose of this comparison is to highlight the advantages and disadvantages of each system with focus on economic and ecological aspects. The result of this process is that there is no strong advantage of one system with reference to another. However, focusing of a critical category of system implementation costs one can come up to result, that the installation of photothermal system is more cost-effective. There is a strong possibility, that in the future both, photovoltaic and solar thermal systems, will characterize with similar technical features and financial effectiveness.
