Wydział Geologii, Geofizyki i Ochrony ŚrodowiskaThe subject of this work are the electricity markets in Poland and in the World. The work presents the origins and politics of energy and the liberalization of the electricity market in the European Union and Poland, which is the basis for the creation of a common European electricity market. Polish electricity market is regulated by the Energy Law, which entered into force on 10 April 1997 and sets out the grounds of energy security, the conditions for sustainable development, efficient use of fuel and energy and the development of competition. Polish electricity market consists of three main markets: the contract market, the stock market and the balancing market. In 2012 the main trade of electricity took place in the stock market, and the total annual trading volume was 132 TWh, acting in 86.6% of the national production of electricity and 84.1% of its consumption. In the European electricity market an important role play power exchanges, of which the largest are: Scandinavian Nord Pool, German EEX, French Powernext and Italian IPEX. The exchanges merge and cooperate in the creation of a common European energy market.
