Wydział Inżynierii Mechanicznej i RobotykiPh.D. thesis covers the possibility of using magnetorheological fluid seals for rotating shafts. The purpose of the thesis was to determine limit conditions of magnetorheological fluid seals. This issue has been resolved through experimental studies using specially designed test stand and by elaboration a mathematical model. The definition of critical pressure and the friction torque for magnetorheological fluid seals. The theoretical analysis and elaboration mathematical formula of the critical pressure and of the friction torque in the seal. Comparison of critical pressure and motion resistance for seals with the magnetorheological fluid and ferrofluid. Based on performed research the critical pressure $p{_kr}$ and friction torque $M_{t}$ were determined for different geometrical parameters. The relationship between fluid volume and critical pressure were determined. Also mathematical model of critical pressure and the friction torque in the seal were defined. Results obtained in the laboratory and the adopted mathematical model confirmed the correctness of work thesis. The performed research shows that the critical pressure of the magnetorheological seal is significantly higher compared to ferrofluid seals for the same working conditions.
