Wydział Geologii, Geofizyki i Ochrony ŚrodowiskaWaste generated in the economic sector represent the largest waste stream in Poland. During the copper ore processing and copper metallurgy KGHM Polska Miedź S.A. produces huge amount of waste, which due to their physico-chemical properties may pose a huge threat to the environment. The aim of the study is identification and characteristic the sources of waste in cooper production, then the analysis and assessment of the waste management state in selected branches of KGHM Polska Miedź S.A. The paper presents the characteristics of the technological process of copper ore processing and melting with an indication of the sources and amounts of waste generated and the method of their installation. The whole amount of these waste is stored on OUOW “Żelazny Most”. Reservoir is constantly expanding and generates huge costs, which are borne by KGHM Polska Miedź S.A. In this Master Thesis described the current results of research on physicochemical properties of flotation waste and presented the results of own research. Assessed the potential impact of flotation waste on the environment. In Master Thesis also discussed the possibilities of processing waste management. Wydział Geologii, Geofizyki i Ochrony ŚrodowiskaThe aim of this thesis was the assessment of the heavy metals release from the anthropogenic soils at the industrial area. The three different anthropogenic soils were studied: the Vistula River sediments from the flooded area in Cracow, sediments from the wetland of the Matylda Chanel and flotation waste from Zn-Pb processing in Bukowno. The concentration of Zn (561-16325 mg/kg), Cd (10,5-137 mg/kg) and Pb (112-17842 mg/kg) are very high in all examined anthropogenic soils. The sequential extraction methods showed that Zn and Cd are very mobile (up to 60% of Zn Chanel Matylda sediments, and up to 77% Cd from the flooded Vistula River sediments).
