    Upper Silesia Basin is filled with Upper Carboniferous sediments. Knowing their potential generation is not only an important issue for science, but also for the industry. The results obtained with the apparatus Rock-Eval made for samples taken from the deposit „Brzeszcze” confirmed that coal and rocks containing inserts of carbon, in spite of considerable maturity of organic matter, have a great potential for methane generation. Methane gas is highly explosive, is a huge threat to run in a fluid operation. Metanowość mine is conditioned mainly by geological conditions.
