Members of the political and religious fringe are able to propagate their ideas via the Internet with less effort than in traditional media. In this article, we attempt to use linguistic cues such as the occurrence of certain parts of speech in order to distinguish the language of fringe groups from strictly informative sources. The aim of this research is to provide a preliminary model for identifying deceptive materials online. Examples of these would include aggressive marketing and hate speech. For the sake of this paper, we aim to focus on the political aspect. Our research has shown that information about sentence length and the occurrence of adjectives and adverbs can provide information for the identification of differences between the language of fringe political groups and mainstream media.Item type:Article, Access status: Open Access , Mowa nienawiści wobec kultury dominującej. Forumowicze portalu onet.pl o Kościele katolickim w Polsce(Wydawnictwa AGH, 2018) Synowiec-Jaje, LidiaIn the article I discuss the phenomenon of hate speech towards Catholic Church in the context of the contemporary criticism of this institution in Poland. I analyze the comments of the Internet users on popular portal Onet.pl for the characteristics of the hate speech. I enumerate its recipients and forms which we can specify during the deep analysis. I interpret also the language of the Internet users. I try to point the causes of hate speech online and partly characterize an average hater. I point out the salience of my research problem and I try to prove why we should research the Internet which is specific environment.
