Wydział Geologii, Geofizyki i Ochrony ŚrodowiskaHospital waste due to its specific properties (radioactivity, toxicity or infectious) needs proper waste management. The most popular method of hospital waste treatment is incineration. By-products of incineration are slag, fly ash and waste coming from the treatment of an exhaust gases. The objective of this study was to examine physico-chemical properties of hospital waste slag after incineration, which are humidity, pH, CaCO3 content, heavy metals concentration (Cd, Cr, Ni, Pb) and heavy metals leachability (EN-type leaching test and TCLP). The obtained results revealed that only pH of the leachates exceed permissible values regulated by law. Leaching of heavy metals do not exceed standards and therefore hospital waste slug can be commonly used, e.g. for the production of road aggregates.
