Wydział ZarządzaniaItem type:Article, Access status: Open Access , Does income inequality hamper human capital accumulation in OECD countries?(Wydawnictwa AGH, 2017) Bartak, JakubThe purpose of this article is to verify whether income inequality impedes the accumulation of human capital in OECD countries during the years of 1990-2010. The article reviews theoretical findings that suggest a negative impact of income dispersions on human capital, and subsequently, it presents estimations of a dynamic model of human capital accumulation. The results of the study reveal a negative and statistically significant relationship between income inequality and human capital inflow measured as student skills test scores.Item type:Article, Access status: Open Access , Human and social capital facing challenges of economic convergence processes in Poland(Wydawnictwa AGH, 2017) Wosiek, MałgorzataThe article deals with the study of the role of human and social capital in shaping the processes of regional development in Poland in 2002-2014. The study is aimed at seeking answers to the question whether and to what extent the characteristics of human and social capital development impeded or fostered the achievement of convergence in living standards (GDP per capita) in regional systems (NUTS-2). The following tools were used: multidimensional statistical exploratory analysis - the cluster analysis (Ward's, k-means), linear ordering - as well as correlation analysis and measures of statistical dispersion. The analysis confirm a stronger link of the processes of economic development in Polish regions with human capital than in those with social capital, whereby there is evidence indicating that it was rather a higher level of the economic development that stimulated changes in human capital and the reverse impact of human capital on the change in the GDP per capita was weaker. When it comes to the educational component of human capital, it can be assumed that this component of human capital could have had a more polarizing than converging impact. The social capital did not mitigate nor strengthen the polarizing impact of human capital. There was, therefore, no confirmation to the hypothesis that intangible factors - human and social capitals - contributed to the convergence in living standards among regions in Poland in 2002-2014.Item type:Article, Access status: Open Access , Rodzina i znajomi - kapitał społeczny w znajdowaniu pracy(Wydawnictwa AGH, 2014) Jeran, AgnieszkaWhen thinking about finding one's first job and probably any job, help from our family and friends is usually sought out. The network of people we know, of our relationships, is often called »social capital«. In this way »social capital« is used in networked and individual perspectives. Results from BAEL can reveal how often this path - that through family and friends — is declared as a way of searching for a job. As well, using results from BKL one can reveal if this way is successful and what kind of employees have found employment in this way.Item type:Article, Access status: Open Access , The role of human and social capital in the local and regional development on the example of Podkarpackie Voivodeship(Wydawnictwa AGH, 2012) Kotarski, HubertThis paper is the attempt to reflect over the role of the human and social capital in the process of the existence of local communities using the empirical example of Podkarpackie Voivodeship. The main objective of this paper is to determine the level of human and social capital of inhabitants of Podkarpackie Voivodeship and the prospect of making use of those resources in the regional development of Podkarpackie Voivodeship. The research results have shown that there is a correlation between the human and social capital and regional development using the example of Podkarpackie Voivodeship. The analysis of correlation between both the human and social capital demonstrated a connection between the level of regional development and the possibility to increase it and the extent and quality of human and social capital the regional development can be affected by. The results of the research used in this paper come from the research project »Human and Social Capital and the Development of Podkarpackie Voivodeship« (agreement No. 2068/B/H03/2009/36) financed with the science funds for the period of 2009-2010.
