Wydział Geologii, Geofizyki i Ochrony ŚrodowiskaThe objective of this paper was mineralogical and petrographical characteristics of salt from Salar de Atacama, located in the driest place in the world – Atacama Desert (in Antofagasta Region, N Chile). Salar de Atacama is the largest chilean salt pan and the second largest salar in the world. The base of this work were mineralogical and petrological examinations of 5 samples of evaporitic rocks from the Salar de Atacama. These specimens were examined by qualitative phase analysis (microscopic analysis in the transmitted light, the X-ray diffraction method – DSH) and chemical method – Atomic Absorption Spectrometry (AAS). All research revealed that the major mineral component of all the samples is anhydrite and detritic material (clay minerals and quartz). Moreover, depending on region of the Salar de Atacama where the samples were taken, halite, gypsum, calcite and dolomite, were identified. Wydział Geologii, Geofizyki i Ochrony ŚrodowiskaMaster's thesis aims to present the variability of the chemical composition of mine water in OG „Polkowice-Sieroszowice” mining copper ore in LGOM (SW Poland). The basis for the implementation of Master's thesis were archival materials collected during practice thesis on mine. We evaluated the results of chemical analyzes of water samples from the years 1997- 2013, from underground boreholes. For chemical analysis of water includes such ions as calcium, magnesium, potassium, sodium, sulfides, chlorides, bicarbonate. Water chemistry results graphically presented in the form of Piper’s diagram and Udluft circular diagram. It was found that the area of the mine Polkowice-Sieroszowice with depth increasing mineralization of water. Changing the type of waters from fresh water to brine. It was confirmed that the study area copper ore deposits there is a correlation that with depth increasing mineralization of groundwater from fresh water to brine.
