The aim of the thesis was to study the mechanisms of phase separation m thin films containing electrically conducting polyaniline and a conventional polymer as well as to identify major factors influencing this process. Moreover, the morphology and mechanisms of creation of dendritic structures, observed in certain conditions in such composites, were elucidated. Furthermore, phase separation was controlled in order to obtain a desired morphology and arrangement of phase domains. To achieve this, soft lithography techniques (mostly micro-contact printing) were utilised in connection with selective deposition of hydrophobic and hydrophilic self-assembled monolayers on the substrate. Symmetric and asymmetric polymer stripes in the micron scale were manufactrured in that way. In order to verify the suitability of the studied films for electronic applications, their conductivity was measured by means of both DC and AC techniques. The conductivity was correlated with the type of protonating agent for polyaniline. It was also shown that the composite films may be utilised as chemical sensors. The samples were studied by means of AFM, SIMS, XPS and UV-Vis techniques.
