    The following project describes the geological setting of a fragment of the Szczercow mining field at the Belchatow Lignite Mine. The description is based upon the author's own geological mapping of the open pit. An untypical development of Miocene sediments was observed, with olistoliths of Jurassic limestones and sedimentary breccias generated by synsedimentary faults. The results of mapping were supplemented by the analysis of drillcores data supplied by the geological department of the Belchatow mine. Integrated data allowed the author to propose a preliminary design of escarpments in the southern wall of the pit. This design solves the difficulties in mining engineering caused by untypical geological structure.
