Item type:Thesis, Access status: Restricted , Stratyfikacja geochemiczna i metody neutralizacji kwaśnych wód w wybranym zbiorniku Łuku Mużakowa(Data obrony: 2012-07-16) Rzepka, Przemysław
Wydział Geologii, Geofizyki i Ochrony ŚrodowiskaThe objective of this study is hydrogeochemical characterization of Afryka reservoir located in anthropogenic lake district of The Mużakowo Arch region (Western Poland). This area is composed of pit lakes formed by leakage of groundwater (mostly Acid Mine Drainage) into the abandoned opencast lignite mines. Afryka is an AMD meromictic lake with permanent stratification. The upper layer (mixolimnion, down to ca. 10 m depth) contains acidic (pH=2,75), well mixed waters saturated with oxygen. It’s salinity is much lower than that of monimolimnion (bottom layer), which is anoxic and more neutral (pH=4,75). Both layers do not mix with each other due to strong density difference. A series of laboratory experiments on neutralization of these AMD waters with limestone, dolomite and lime indicate that liming is the most effective. It results in precipitation of gypsum.
