The main foundation of the doctoral dissertation is the use of processed former Austrian cadastre map and descriptive part of former Austrian cadastre documentation to determine the legal status of real estate, especially in the process of taking over their targets public linear investments, modernization of land and buildings register maps, moreover in land consolidation and land exchanges. An important aspect was to determine the extent of ownership rights in the forests, wooded areas and grassland in complementing the borders of plots, which are not visible on digital orthophotomaps. Detailed studies of the accuracy of border location was made by using indirect method of transformation of former Austrian cadastre map into digital form. This process was carried out with the implementation of a new way of selecting points on cadastre map which were used in transformation process. The descriptive and cartographic part of land and building register from different years was used for comparative analysis. These studies were made by assessing the accuracy of the position of border points and borderlines between the former Austrian cadastre map, digital land and buildings register map and orthophotomaps. A proven method of transformation of former Austrian cadastre map into “2000” coordinate system was used in the researches on the establishing of the legal status regarding the real estates which are purchasing to the benefit of the State Treasure based on the real estates in villages in Nowy Targ district, as also in land consolidation and land exchanges process. Based on the studies, the methodology of using former Austrian cadastre documentation for legal purposes has been developed.
