    Metadata-driven data migration from object-relational database to NoSQL document-oriented database

    Object-relational databases (ORDB) are powerful tools for managing complex data, but they suffer from problems of scalability and managing large-scale data. Therefore, the importance of the migration of ORDB to NoSQL derives from the fact that the large volume of data can be handled in the best way with high scalability and availability. This paper reports a metadata-driven approach for the migration of ORDB to a document-oriented NoSQL database. Our data-migration approach involves three major stages: a pre-processing stage (to extract data and a schema’s components), a processing stage (to provide data transformation), and a post-processing stage (to store migrated data as BSON documents). This approach maintains the benefits of Oracle ORDB in NoSQL MongoDB by supporting integrity constraint checking. To validate our approach, we developed the OR2DOD (object relational to document-oriented database) system, and the experimental results confirm the effectiveness of our proposal.

    System informacji o archiwalnych zbiorach kartograficznych dotyczących eksploatacji górniczej na ziemiach polskich

    In 2005 the authors started the research project Information System on Archive Cartographic Collections Referring to Mining in the Area of Poland. In the article the principles of the project are presented. The objective of the project is to make a catalogue and put in a uniform system mining maps from the area of contemporary Poland. So far the maps have been dispersed into different units and private collections. The concept of the system MICARIS (Mine Cartography Information System) was presented. The system was based on the metadata base and available in the Internet. The system should enable to carry out simple spatial analyses. Predicted effects of the project were discussed as well as the state of the progress of work.

    Wybrane aspekty modelowania wielorozdzielczych i wieloreprezentacyjnych baz danych topograficznych

    W artykule opisano podstawowe cechy wielorozdzielczych i wieloreprezentacyjnych baz danych przestrzennych. Zwrócono uwagę na sposoby przedstawiania geometrii obiektów w tego typu bazach danych, metody powiązania różnych reprezentacji geometrycznych tych samych obiektów, a także na znaczenie utworzenia prawidłowej hierarchii pojęciowej obiektów i metadanych. W drugiej części artykułu wskazano na możliwości wdrożenia tego typu rozwiązań przy tworzeniu baz danych topograficznych przez polską cywilną służbę geodezyjną i kartograficzną.
