Item type:Thesis, Access status: Restricted , Ocena trendów stężeń składników głównych w wodach podziemnych w rejonie składowiska Smolnica(Data obrony: 2013-10-31) Sieńko, Anna
Wydział Geologii, Geofizyki i Ochrony ŚrodowiskaThe impact of Smolnica mining waste disposal site on groundwater quality degradation resulting from infiltration of contaminants leached from disposal site to the Quaternary aquifer, and trends of groundwater quality temporal alteration were evaluated. The analysis was based on the data of 17-year monitoring studies carried out by the LMWP network in the Smolnica mining waste disposal site located in the Upper Silesian Coal Basin (USCB). Clean waters flowing into the mining waste disposal site area are characterized by good quality parameters and do not show any major changes under the influence of anthropogenic factors . The concentrations of the analyzed components are much smaller in the clean waters than in polluted waters downstream from the area of the Smolnica landfill. The increase of chloride salinity, sulfate concentration , progressive acidification of the environment, the release of iron, and an increase in conductivity are the common directions of the changes of the groundwater quality flowing from the area of landfill. Significant changes in groundwater quality in the area of the Smolnica coal mining waste disposal site are connected with reexploitation of wastes carried out by Gwarex - Ryan Poland in the years 1988-1997 . This activity resulted in further degradation of groundwater quality downstream from the mining waste disposal site. Results of long-term monitoring, temporal alteration and analysis hydrogeochemical background indicate that the Smolnica mining waste disposal site become a long-term and real focus of groundwater pollution in the area.
