Item type:Article, Access status: Open Access , An examination of the glaciomarginal fan of the Odranian glaciation at the Mokrzeszów site, Sudetic Foreland, SW Poland(Wydawnictwa AGH, 2022) Krzyszkowski, Dariusz; Wachecka-Kotkowska, Lucyna; Skurzyński, JacekThe article presents the results of research from the Mokrzeszów site in the Sudetic Foreland. Lithopetrographic and sedimentological analyses of sediments from the Middle Polish Glaciations (Early Saalian, Odranian, MIS6) in this area indicate the overrepresentation (90–95%) of large Scandinavian erratics. The deposits, representing a repetitive sequence of Gp-Gms-Sp-Sh/Sr(Dmm) lithofacies, accumulated during at least two episodes of glacial outburst floods and six sedimentary cycles. High-energy flows are estimated for the Gms and Gp facies at about 5 m $\cdot$ s$^{-1}$ and low-energy flows indicate 0.8 m $\cdot$ s$^{-1}$ for the Sp/Sh/Sr facies, to the lack of flow (Fm). The sedimentary sequences confirm the existence of a fan, which may have originated as a subaqueous steep coarse-grained fan in glacial-flow-lake-outburst floods that formed between the ice sheet front and the morphotectonic edge of the Sudetic Marginal Fault line and within the Roztoka-Mokrzeszów Graben, or as an aerial, piedmont fan on the Sudetic Marginal Fault edge. The sediments show discontinuous deformations – gently sloping faults and fractures from glacioisostatic stresses. The fault activity is probably related to the reactivation of the faults due to ice loading during or after the older Saalian glaciation.Item type:Article, Access status: Open Access , Geodynamika centralnej części Górnego Śląska w świetle badań GPS(Wydawnictwa AGH, 2009) Jochymczyk, Krzysztof; Zuberek, Wacław MarianThe seismological study carried out in the area of the Upper Silesia Coal Basin shows the close connection between strong tremors and geological structure. In this region tectonic stresses can be intensified by other stresses which have occurred owing to mining exploitation. To obtain the most valuable information on this relation leading to its plausible interpretation, it seems to be purposeful and advisable to apply geodynamical investigation. However, such a kind of investigation belongs to a long-term one, and its interpretation is relatively difficult owing to the fact that the area is under the intensive mining exploitation resulting in large dislocation and mining damage. That is why the geodynamical investigation in such troublesome region, despite the use of a high-tech GPS method, should be additionally developed by making detailed geological inspection and seismological research. Moreover, a geological survey should be done with great accuracy in the region of mining activity because it plays a key role in a complex interpretation based on obtained data. In the paper preliminary results of GPS measurements taken from 8 survey points are presented. The survey points were located meridionally in the north and central part of the USCB between Świerklaniec town and Mikołów town.Item type:Article, Access status: Open Access , Monitoring geodynamic processes using geodetic and gravimetric methods: an example from the Western Carpathians (South Poland)(Wydawnictwa AGH, 2009) Łój, Monika; Madej, Janusz; Porzucek, Sławomir; Zuchiewicz, WitoldZintegrowane studia grawimetryczne, geodezyjne i geologiczno-geomorfologiczne przeprowadzono na dwóch profilach przecinających szereg jednostek środkowej części Karpat polskich, wykazujących zróżnicowane tendencje neotektoniczne: w poprzek Kotliny Orawskiej na zachodzie oraz wzdłuż beskidzkiego przełomu Dunajca na wschodzie. Pomiary grawimetryczne i geodezyjne wykonywano corocznie w okresie 2004--2006. Przemieszczenia poziome reperów usytuowanych w obrębie Karpat zewnętrznych, a skierowane ku zachodowi i SW w profilu zachodnim oraz ku wschodowi i SE w profilu wschodnim, mogą odzwierciedlać wypiętrzanie obszaru ograniczonego profilami, tj. masywu Gorców. Natomiast skierowane ku północy i NNE wektory współczesnych ruchów poziomych dla stanowisk ulokowanych na południe od pienińskiego pasa skałkowego zdają się wskazywać na nadal aktywny nacisk bloku ALCAPA ku NNE.Item type:Article, Access status: Open Access , Morfotektonika przełomów Solinki i Wetlinki w świetle badań terenowych i interpretacji zdjęć lotniczych (Bieszczady Wysokie)(Wydawnictwa AGH, 2005) Kuśmierek, JanGorge-type valleys of the Solinka and Wetlinka rivers within the Upper San drainage basin represent an interesting geotouristic object in respect of distinct relationship between relief, and evolution and tectonics of complex geological structures in the foreland of the Dukla Unit in the Bieszczady Mts. They also distinguish themselves by picturesque landscapes and vast exposures of the Otryt Sandstone outcrops, this Late Oligocene member is typical of the Bieszczady facies subregion of the Silesian Nappe. Detailed cartographic and structural investigations made by the author have proved that synclines, composed of thick complexes of the Otryt Sandstones, are backward overthrust onto subsurface structural elements, a feature which has not been reflected in previous cartographic elaborations. With formation of the disharmonic tectonic structures, the inversional character and origin of the Solinka and Wetlinka water gaps are connected. Hypsometric measurements of relics of the foothill and riverside planation surfaces, carried out on stereoscopic aerial photographs, have documented significant deformation of the surfaces and oscillatory character of the Pliocene-Quaternary neotectonic uplift. The greatest denivelations of the planation surfaces correlate with the intersection of the backward overthrusts which had crucial effects on tectonic reshaping of the structures, as well as on the relief development, this resulted in the origin of the antecedent water gaps and incised meanders.Item type:Article, Access status: Open Access , Przejawy ruchów neotektonicznych i współczesnych w bocheńskiej kopalni soli kamiennej(Wydawnictwa AGH, 2006) Toboła, Tomasz; Bezkorowajny, AndrzejExamination of neotectonics and recent tectonic movements of the Carpathian mountains and neighbouring geological structures have been carried out since a few decades. On the basis of geological and geomorphological examination Bochnia, the district situated at the border of the Carpathian flysch and the Carpathian Foredeep, has been ranked among neotectonically uplifted structures. The Bochnia salt deposit has been exploited since middle of the 13th century and may be a very convenient object for the study of geodynamic events and influence of neotectonic and recent movements on geological structure of the deposit. In the present paper the authors make an attempt at evaluation of recent and neotectonic movements within the rock mass. The main task was to distinguish such indicators which would make it possible to recognize the presence of tectonic movements originating after the last stage of salt deposit formation as well as those resulting from present-day activity of the Carpathians. Observations carried out in the Bochnia salt mine enable us to list the following indicators as: deformations of such secondary rocks as fibrous salt veins, disturbances of some surfaces of discontinuity and differentiated rate of convergence of the mine galleries.Item type:Article, Access status: Open Access , Wstępna analiza przemieszczeń punktów osnowy poziomej ESP Żar(Wydawnictwa AGH, 2006) Bałut, AdamThe horizontal control network of the Żar hydropower facility is observed by the GPS technique since 2001. Comparison of results of five annual resurveys proved stability of the main observation pillars, used as a reference for determination of dam displacements and deformations. The network extends for about 5 km outside the artificial lake and stretches a probably active tectonic fault. The span of four years allowed determination of a 0.5 ppm/y compression in the area in the direction NE-SW, which does not contradict geophysical evidence.
