    Most of current works concerning the optimalization of resource management mechanisms in Grid environments, concentrate on assuring similar functionality at the middleware layer. Hence of some restrictions in such resource allocation and management, this dissertation proposes the usage of virtualization techniques as a light mechanism enabling the control of resource utilization. The practical verification of the implementation of the proposed concept will enable to effectively manage the Virtual Grid built with components consisting of emulated (virtual) machines. Basing the Grid environment on virtualization would allow the flexible reconfiguration of particular nodes and through the migration of virtual machines to effectively use the pool of physical machines without stopping running components. The aim of this work was also to verify whether the concept of mapping the application to the execution environment (called Virtual Grid) and tailored to its requirement is an effective way of available resources allocation.
