The purpose of this thesis was to carry out the petrographic analysis (macroscopic and microscopic) of Krosno sandstones from Barwałd deposit, located in the Wielickie foothills. During the work it was found that a group of sandstone characterized by a different structure and texture: fine-grained sandstone with random or laminated structure, medium-grained sandstone with random structure, coarse-grained sandstone with random structure. It was found that their common feature is similar mineral composition, rich calcareous cement and quartz content above 40 %. Another aim was to find out how we can use wastes which were generated during processing of sandstones. The petrographic analysis was based on a series of petrographic examinations, including microscopic and macroscopic observations and sieve analysis. It was found that these wastes can be used to land reclamation, as an additive to flooring mortar, fixations used on roads and airports and other surfaces, as well as to different classes of concrete. The thesis was complemented by numerous pictures, figures and charts. All the descriptions and examinations were included by author, who based on samples taken from the field.
