Item type:Thesis, Access status: Restricted , Wykorzystanie przepuszczalnych barier aktywnych do oczyszczania wód podziemnych zanieczyszczonych substancjami organicznymi(Data obrony: 2014-07-31) Andrychowicz, Anna
Wydział Geologii, Geofizyki i Ochrony ŚrodowiskaTrichloroethylene (TCE) and tetrachloroethylene (PCE) are common groundwater organic contaminants that persist in the environment. They have entered soil-water systems because of common use without proper handling for degreasing of metal parts, and currently pose risk for groundwater resources. The author has focused on the groundwater resources contaminated with TCE and PCE related to the waterworks in Nowa Deba where this problem has been identified. The site has been extensively described including the hydrogeological conditions and characteristics of groundwater chemical status. A brief discussion on relevant remediation methods for groundwater contaminated with organic compounds (including chlorinated ethens) has also been provided. Finally, a pilot - scale installation has been designed and is currently tested to demonstrate the feasibility of using permeable reactive barriers (PRB) to treat groundwater contaminated with TCE and PCE. The effectiveness of a mixture of compost and brown coal as the active materials (not expensive, easily available and environmental friendly) is also tested.
