Wydział Geologii, Geofizyki i Ochrony ŚrodowiskaInertial navigation uses accelerometers to determine position. It is so called double integration process: first integral of the acceleration gives velocity, then integral of velocity results in distance. Triple axis accelerometer and gyroscope, MPU-6050 device, as well as Raspberry Pi miniature computer were used in this project. Accuracy of measurements was too low to properly compute position, but correcting algorithm has been developed. It requires that device is stationary and correction has to be executed once every few seconds. Huge errors and complicated process of correcting them renders use of this method impractical in real life.
