These trends are directly related to structural changes within the economy. Modifications of economic models imply a need for the creation of a new regional development concept. An example of such a concept is the silver-economy strategy implemented at the regional level. This article attempts to identify the existing potential and the main barriers to the introduction of the silver-economy concept in the region. Based on the analysis of spatial disposition of mining areas and objects we distinguished the regions which were particularly affected by mining industry. Taking into consideration various criteria we have made an assessment and prepared a hierarchy of areas, which restoration and revitalisation should be concerned a priority task.Item type:Article, Access status: Open Access , The conception of cluster support policy in the realities of the Polish economy(2012) Kaźmierski, JanOver the years clusters have become a phenomenon of every economy. They should be treated as a vital mechanism that activates region development. Therefore, cluster-based policy gains an exceptional meaning. Selecting that model of policy, the problem of public aid and support instruments' appliance are crucial issues. Beside the aspects that were mentioned above, the author also discusses barriers and limitations which are connected with cluster-based policy. He also indicates the ways to overcome them. The conclusions and implications that are presented are for the most part the aftermath of the author's own empirical research on cluster development issues.Item type:Article, Access status: Open Access , The role of human and social capital in the local and regional development on the example of Podkarpackie Voivodeship(Wydawnictwa AGH, 2012) Kotarski, HubertThis paper is the attempt to reflect over the role of the human and social capital in the process of the existence of local communities using the empirical example of Podkarpackie Voivodeship. The main objective of this paper is to determine the level of human and social capital of inhabitants of Podkarpackie Voivodeship and the prospect of making use of those resources in the regional development of Podkarpackie Voivodeship. The research results have shown that there is a correlation between the human and social capital and regional development using the example of Podkarpackie Voivodeship. The analysis of correlation between both the human and social capital demonstrated a connection between the level of regional development and the possibility to increase it and the extent and quality of human and social capital the regional development can be affected by. The results of the research used in this paper come from the research project »Human and Social Capital and the Development of Podkarpackie Voivodeship« (agreement No. 2068/B/H03/2009/36) financed with the science funds for the period of 2009-2010.
