    Dynamic development of virtualization and computer hardware allowed effective use of this technology. The purpose of this study was to apply known virtualization techniques for the construction of the geoinformatic laboratory infrastructure, designed for student’s classes and research. At the beginning, used technology was present from theoretical point of view. The rest of paper is mainly focused on the use of virtualization in practice. In order to create virtual infrastructure different types of software were used and tested. Obtained results allowed recognizing the pros and cons of applied solutions and answer the question, if the standard approach can be replaced by virtualization technology and to what extent.
