Item type:Book Chapter, Access status: Open Access , Emerytowani pracownicy naukowi – okoliczności towarzyszące przejściu w stan spoczynku(Wydawnictwa AGH, 2024) Maksymowicz, AgataIn today’s world, particularly in Europe, the issue of aging is of significant interest for social researchers. Increased life expectancy, advances in medicine, and declining birth rates mean that we live in an increasingly aging society. The subject of this article is the circumstances surrounding the retirement of academic employees from universities in Krakow. This particular stage of a person’s life signifies the end (often gradual) of what is usually a several-decades-long professional career. How do retired scholars perceive this period, is the decision to retire made independently by the scholars themselves, what assistance do they receive during this special time, and how do they prepare for this new stage of life? These questions are part of a broader research project conducted by a team of four staff members from the Faculty of Humanities at AGH University of Krakow.
