    The aim of research work was to characterize of some chemical problems connected with the influence of municipal sewage sludges on the environment. The experimental works have been directed into recognition of the possibilities of reduction of odors emited during the deposition of sewage sludges, as well the lowering of heavy metal concentration in treated municipal sludges. The results have clearly shown that the addition of smectite clay minerals both in natural form, as well in activated form led to significant decrease of heavy metal concentration in the sewage sludge solutions. The method is also useful in reduction of odor concentration.
